Google takes on Facebook with Google Buzz

Google is launching Google Buzz, which is integrated into Gmail accounts as seen on the screen shots here on ft.com . They have also made it available via a smart phone taking advantage of their Android mobile software by enabling voice recognition to dictate your messages. (This bit is quite cool if you have a lot to say.)

Here is a quote from ft.com

The group said on Tuesday it hoped to use its core search engine technology to sift the flood of social media and filter out distracting or irrelevant information for users of Google Buzz, its latest service.

“We will have access to those things you’re interested in, those posts you read,” said Sergey Brin, co-founder. “We think we’ll be able to make those things useful to you.”

They are attempting to get people to connect with their friends on their email list right in the gmail interface. Of course, Google is leveraging its search technology and also all the data it collects from you while you use their gmail and search service to somehwo offer you things that you might find interesting. Very big brother here.

Not sure about you but my gmail account is for a variety of things and I certainly don’t want to be friends with quite a few of those people whose newsletters I subscribe as mostly I am lurking and spying on what they are doing.

Let’s watch this and see how it develops. Technorati Tags: , ,

Useful marketing reports to download

At the last Stompernet Live event, the presentation done by Infusionsoft was very interesting with their tips on how to increase your revenues using their tool. This has prompted me to investigate their service a bit further.

I was just looking through Infusionsoft’s site to check out their latest offer. They have reduced their previously exorbitant $5,000 set up fee to make this service available to more marketers. While browsing,  I found that they have some useful free reports  on here. The topics range from ” How Free Reports Transform Your Marketing Into A Lead Generation Magnet to Email Marketing vs. SPAM. Well worth a read if you are doing email marketing.

How to cash US dollar cheques in the UK

I have had some cheques sent to me in US dollars and asked if I could bank it in directly without a charge. It seems Halifax will charge £14 and Barclays is free except they will use a very unfavourable exchange rate.

Another option is to open a USD account at Citibank who will bank in your US dollar cheques for free. They offer both current account or savings account and you can have both sterling or USD accounts.

If you have signed up to any US affiliate programmes like Clickbank, they pay you by cheque until you qualify for direct payments into your bank account. So if you are planning this as one of your sources of passive income, be prepared and look for a way of dealing with the deluge of cheques without wasting too much of your hard earned money on fees.

Another alternative I found is Auctionchex which will swap your USD cheque for a Sterling one for a small fee. This company grew up on the back of ebay but have now turned into a great resource for UK affiliate marketers.

Am still looking for some alternatives to these options so if you know any, do add a comment below. Thanks.
