I just read a powerful document by Perry Marshall about “widgets but not it is not what you think it is. This is how he describes it.

When I use the term “widgets” I’m not using it as a generic term for making
‘gizmos.’ The term “widget” means the creation of a business within a business,
a category within a category, and an experience outside of the ordinary.

The document gives a lot of examples of how companies use widgets to enhance their profitability by selling for a bit more, adding a bit more value, making people buy more, come back again or even buying related goods and services from you.

It has inspired me to think out of the box as it really is an extension to the upselling / cross selling cry that a lot of marketing people shout at you. There are examples like McDonalds, Walmart, Ikea and even the local Italian restuarant. You can dowload here: Perry Marshall’s widgets.

I would advice you to read this and take some action on your own business. If you have some great results from these strategies, please share them below.

I was alerted to this Perry Belcher video on Social Media. He explains in really well, it is about building a relationship by sharing yourself, not just selling your stuff. Watch this as he does a good job of showing how it all interlinks….. and might eventually lead to some business. Who knows you might make some friends on the way.
