Google is launching Google Buzz, which is integrated into Gmail accounts as seen on the screen shots here on ft.com . They have also made it available via a smart phone taking advantage of their Android mobile software by enabling voice recognition to dictate your messages. (This bit is quite cool if you have a lot to say.)
Here is a quote from ft.com
The group said on Tuesday it hoped to use its core search engine technology to sift the flood of social media and filter out distracting or irrelevant information for users of Google Buzz, its latest service.
“We will have access to those things you’re interested in, those posts you read,” said Sergey Brin, co-founder. “We think we’ll be able to make those things useful to you.”
They are attempting to get people to connect with their friends on their email list right in the gmail interface. Of course, Google is leveraging its search technology and also all the data it collects from you while you use their gmail and search service to somehwo offer you things that you might find interesting. Very big brother here.
Not sure about you but my gmail account is for a variety of things and I certainly don’t want to be friends with quite a few of those people whose newsletters I subscribe as mostly I am lurking and spying on what they are doing.
Let’s watch this and see how it develops. Technorati Tags: google buzz, facebook, social media
