Feedburner has been bought out by Google so the interface has changed since I first used it so here are some new screen shots on how to do this.
First step is to either claim your feed or to add in your blog address. Most feed addresses are just www.domain.com/feed so try that if you are stuck.

This is a feed that I am burning for a new food blog.

Then just follow the instructions.
That’s it. Done. Now Feedburner will track and distribute your RSS feed.

If you use wordpress, make sure you get the Feedburner Feedsmith plugin and input the details there. Anytime someone subscribes to your blog, this will be tracked and recorded by Feedburner. If you have a lot of RSS reader, add the widget to your sidebar which shows a count of subscriptions, which all adds to social proof.
